"This tiny island was proof that dreams are not granted based on gender or youth but rather on the tenacity of your spirit and the strength of your grasp."If you're new around here, you might not know about my obsession with freediving. We happened upon a world competition in the Bahamas our first year of cruising. At the time, I wrote an article about it that was published in the New York Times.
Now I've written about it in my column (PDF version) in the November/December issue of Classic Yacht magazine. This is a much more personal account of watching Natalia Molchanova, a Russian freediver, attempting to set a world record. But at its heart, it is about reaching just beyond your grasp.
