If you're new around here, you might not know about my obsession with freediving. We happened upon a world competition in the Bahamas our first year of cruising. At the time, I wrote an article about it that was published in the New York Times.

Now I've written about it in my column (PDF version) in the November/December issue of Classic Yacht magazine. This is a much more personal account of watching Natalia Molchanova, a Russian freediver, attempting to set a world record. But at its heart, it is about reaching just beyond your grasp.
